Climate solutions projects are a rapidly growing industry that is expected to grow five times by 2030 compared to 2021 (Taskforce on Scaling Voluntary Carbon Markets). Nonetheless, investments in these types of projects are often not regulated and not classed as regular investments, particularly when related to carbon credits. For this reason, they are considered too risky for “unsophisticated” individual investors. These investments are recommended for investors with significant experience and knowledge of market and investment dynamics, who have a good understanding of risks involved, or so called “sophisticated investors”. In addition to this criterium, Sustinere also looks at investor’s reputation and past investment history, to ensure compatibility in values and business practices. Sophisticated investors are also potentially eligible to benefit from our other activity sectors, such as community-based sustainable biomass and organic commodities from agroforestry.

Sustinere abides by the position expressed in the joint statement on the suitability of carbon credits for investment by the general public by important regulators in the industry. Even though the carbon credits market has grown much stronger and more stable since this statement was written, the position expressed still represents the current view and recommendations of industry regulators.
