Reforestation 2030 Challenge
Around the world, driven in part by the Paris Agreement on climate change, governments have made commitments to restore an area of degraded land larger than South Africa. Reforestation and conservation can deliver at least a third of the emission reductions needed by 2030!
Fight poverty and empower women and girls
- Agroforestry means planting trees around crops to naturally stabilize and boost food production. It helps the rural poor by providing food security and produce to sell in local markets.
- Sustinere’s reforestation projects place special focus on women and girls because we acknowledge that rural poverty is often most present for this group.
- Experience has shown that after reforestation, the tree survival rate through forest conservation activities is highest in projects that significantly involve women. (United Nations Forum on Forests, May 2018)
The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do no expect to sit.

Reforestation in the Choco: Our latest project
Sustinere and its partners are preparing a reforestation project in the Choco, one of the world’s most biodiverse regions, home to more than 8,000 species of plants and 600 species of birds. In the 2000s, the Choco suffered 60% of the total deforestation in Colombia, mainly due to mining and agriculture. The project will restore 100 hectares of forest, strengthen economic development and gender equality. Stay tuned for our project video!
United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The SDGs are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice. The Goals interconnect and in order to leave no one behind, it ís important that we achieve each Goal and target by 2030. (United Nations website)
In this view, Sustinere’s reforestation projects aim to directly contribute to 12 of the 17 SDGs. See below which SDGs we systematically incorporate in our work.
